This painting represents the gateway to my subsequent (and ongoing) addiction to the work of Peter Roux. I was fascinated by the complexity of what was happening in the apparently empty space, as if even the air hanging between me and the distant line of trees was as important to the artist as the landscape features represented on the canvas.
